PURPOSE


    Taiwan  Sweater  Industry  Association (TSIA)  was  set  up by Taiwan 

sweater manufacturers  to  promote  and  expand  the  sweater  industry's 

interest both at home and abroad.  Its mission is:



    To coordinate the sweater manufacturers for mutual benefits.



    To enhance the  image  of  Taiwan  sweater  products  in  the world's 

    market.



    To improve the economic  well-being  and  industrial  development  of 

    member firms.



    TSIA  has  120  member  firms,  most  of  which  are  located  in the 

    peripheries of Taipei city and Tainan city.

SERVICES


    Being an active and aggressive  organization, TSIA has been providing 

the following services to both government and business sector:



    Collecting and releasing timely market information.



    Echoing  out  the  voice  of  the sweater manufacturers and assisting 

government in  determining  policies relating  to  quota  allocation  and 

oversea's processing trade.



    Organizing  the  member  firms  to participate in major international

exhibitions annually.



    Enhancing the  R&D  in  sweater  knitting  and designing advancements

through organized  seminars  and  awarding  the  distinguished  designers 

selected from design contest organized by TSIA.



    Establishing the  channel  for  international  communication,  market 

penetration,  information   gathering, as  well  as  opening  prospective 

business opportunities.



    Assisting  member  firms  in  their  pursuit  of  taking  part in the 

mainland China's business opportunities.



    Participating  in  the  social  services  on  behalf  of  the sweater 

industry. 

PROSPECTS


    1. Technological progress



    With  the  cooperation with China Textile Institute (Taiwan), TSIA is

undertaking  a 3-year  project  aiming to develop an automatic production 

system for sweater making. In the first year of the project, the emphases 

will be put on upgrading  quality  of  fancy  yarn and improving knitting 

efficiency.  The second year,  while it  will  contiune on the first-year 

program, TSIA will focus on the development of  automatic machineries for 

assembling and dyeing  and  finishing sweaters.  The last year, TSIA will 

integrate  the  R&D  accomplishments of  the  previous  two  years into a 

vertically-integrated automatic production system for sweater making.



    2. Market Development



    While the production niche in Taiwan has been deteriorating for  over 

than one decade, TSIA is and will  be  firm  and  loyal  to its  original 

mission of promoting and expanding the interests of Taiwan sweater makers.

By continuously sending out the  trade  missions  to explore existing and 

potential oversea's markets, TSIA believes  the  sweater  industry  shall 

remain an active player in not only Taiwan economy but also  in internat-

ional markets.
