TAIWAN GARMENT INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION	Chairman: Hsu Jung Hua

PURPOSE

    The garment industry in Taiwan,Republic of China,encounter continuous

troubles such a s labor  shortage,  raising wages,  global  show economic 

conditions,along with the growing competitors  of Asia new  industrialing 

countries  based upon the low wages & plenty labor.  As a result of those 

problems, the export volume and  competitiveness have been decreased in a 

large proportion. Influenced by the conflicts, we faced the difficulty in 

running the garment business owing to the continous decrease of export 

volume.



    In order to assist  our members  to  encounter  such  change from the 

environment, we  advise  them  to  make  the  structural  adjustment as a 

transformation to adapt to the current situation and reduce the operation 

cost.We also expect to lead our memebers to break through the traditional 

production oriented  approach, transforming  into marketing approach.  We 

try to solve the problems of labor shortage, and  it is the target of our

Associaton to provide the asistance to our members. Thus, we aggressively 

sponsor  the  research, discussion, meeting, and training  projects  as a 

chance of mutual learning for our members.  We hope our garment  industry 

have the access to the marketing network in the  U.S.、Japan and European 

market.

ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE

    The Association if founded with the  approval  of the Ministry of the 

Interior.  It is administrated by  a  Board  of  Directors and a Board of 

Supervisors established in accordance with the Association Charter.  



    Under  the Board of  Directors, Executive  Directors and  an  Elected 

Chairman   oversee  all   Association   works.  Six  Committees,   namely 

comprehensive Research, Quota Affairs, profess- ional Training, Marketing 

Promotion, Mainland  Trade of Investment and Garment Design Research, are 

responsible for legislation  research,  analysis, and suggestion of their 

respective field. Under the  Board  of Supervisors, Executive Supervisors 

and  an  Elected  Convener  are  in  charge  of  supervising  Association 

operation and finances. 



    A General Secretary, also under the Board of  Directors, is in charge 

of  administrating  Association  works  with  the  assistance of a Deputy 

General Secretary.  Under them, there  are  four  Divisions  named as the 

General Affairis Division, the Business Division, the  Planning Division, 

and  the  Finance  Division.   They  are  executing  various  aspects  of 

Association works.

    1.Aspect in promoting the upgrade of garment manufacturing



    2.Aspect in assisting members penetrating international market direc-

      tly



    3.Aspect in assisting members  better  understanding  the  investment 

      environment in ainland China



    4.Aspect in Cultivating and Training skilled workers in Garment Manu-

      facturing industry

   

    5.Aspect in participating in Economic and social activities

PROPSECT

    The  garment  industry  of  Republic  of  China was a labor intensive 

industry originally, but now is in the period of  transformation.  Before 

the production capacity and design ability  being  upgraded actually, the 

operation within short time will still  be  hard.  However, if the trans-

formation is successful, it should have  brighter prospect and restablish 

the excellent performance.  Therefore,  our  Association will continue to 

take efforts pushing various  projects  to  provide  member manufacturers 

good service and  effective  assistance as to the good prospect coming as 

soon as possible.
